Hawaiian Gatherings Vintage Hula Lamps |
|
The original Vintage hulalamps (part was omitted by me) were
produced in the 1930's and 40's by Dodge Inc. and several other
manufacturers. The 'motor' usually denoted the maker of the lamp.
The original vintage lamps are becoming even more rare and difficult to find in good working condition. These lamps were cast in ceramic and then hand painted, or in a casting material called pot metal which many toy items of this period were produced from. Pot metal is a porous exceptionally fragile material and can become very brittle over time and difficult if not impossible to repair to original condition. Usually lamps were coated with a bronze layer, giving them their golden glow. Most people prefer to leave the patina on them, thus showing their age. We never remove the original patina of 60 years, but all will appear differently, depending on storage and environmental conditions.
The original lamps are usually finished with electroplating or handpainted for a more aesthetically appealing appearance. If nostalgia is what you are looking for, a vintage piece will be exactly your best choice.
Regardless
of your choice these lamps will most certainly become a major
conversation piece in your home and something to be treasured. The
majority of them have an original skirt, however, some are found in
threads, and we have been able to restore many of them with silk
threads and in the proper color tone of the originals. Fabric does
deteriorate, but ours will last a long time, if properly cared for,
as will all ''original vintage items''.
