The Alliatas’ invitation encouraged invitees to bring visiting friends, so Watters O. Martin Jr., second from left, and Christina Hassell, in white, brought visiting San Franciscans Bob Federighi and Toni Wolfson. Federighi and Wolfson were staying at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel, and Wolfson said signing in at the renovated Royal was a moment she will always remember.

NEW YEAR’S WITH THE ALLIATAS: Princess Dialta Alliata di Montereale, third from left, welcomed Nan Baker and Heloisa and Steve Little to the Alliata family’s New Year’s Eve party Dec. 31 in Makiki Heights. Dialta and her husband, Prince Vittorio, invited a cosmopolitan group for an evening of hors d’oeuvres, beverages and stimulating conversation leading up to fireworks at midnight. Dialta then gave each guest a plate and told them to make a wish for 2009 before throwing it down a stairwell. If the plate broke they’d get their wish. Here’s hoping!

He DID break the plate!!!!!

And there were no end of Royals...doing the same. Only me that had hala for the end of the year... Went home and ate poiand pipi-kaula

"PERFECT PAIRING" PROMOTES ART PRESERVATION: Watters O. Martin Jr., left, and his wife, Kristy Martin, were joined by Bishop Museum archivist and collections manager DeSoto Brown and Michael Wilson, general manger of Morton's The Steakhouse Honolulu, during the 3rd Annual Benefit Dinner to Support Bishop Museum's Picture Gallery and Art Restoration Fund on Sept. 22 at Morton's. They were admiring 19th-century painter Paul Emmert's "View of Diamond Head and Honolulu from the Harbor," considered one of the most important paintings of the city from its time. Thanks to a $20,000 donation made at the dinner, it can now be restored and displayed.
